Our group chose to reinvest in our ‘scene’ from “Savage Love”, which was really a compilation of several of the different pieces. The changes that we made were in format: we chose to do audio only instead of having a visual aid, and we also added some underscoring under the text. I really like these new changes, because I think it gives the piece a brand new perspective. Shakespeare himself said that “love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.” I think, with this is mind, this piece as well as all of Savage Love can be looked at anew. We rely so much on sight: we are sensorial driven beings, and predominantly depend on sight. But imagining that we no longer have that sense available to us, we must rely on our other senses and our mind’s eye to fill in the gaps. Especially in considering love, taking away sight can open up so many other experiences when relying just on sound or touch. I invite you to close your eyes while listening to this audio file. My just having your ears to paint the picture, the story told by our Savage Love piece can be personalized, experienced in a new way, and reach different depths of our own understanding instead of letting the story be told for us by our eyes, and simply sitting back and watching.
